Operation Smile: City Police rescued 116 children

The Cyberabad Police rescued 116 children including 51 girls during ‘Operation Smile’ in the last one month. Officials said 42 children who were rescued were below six years and majority of them are from Odisha. Cyberabad Police formed Operation Smile teams in the three zones, which work throughout the year to rescue children from child labour, begging, rag picking, etc.
According to the police, of the children rescued, 103 were sent to the rescue home and 13 were handed over to their parents. A total of 53 children including 27 girls were rescued from begging, 51 children from child labour and 12 from rag-picking.
Among these children, 42 belong to other States including Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. A total of 15 cases were registered on the persons using children for labour and begging, officials said.
The rescued children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and further sent to various shelter homes.
